DreamWorks Dragons Defenders of Berk Real Flying Toothless Review (Spin Master)

What It Is

The Dragons Defenders of Berk Real Flying Toothless from Spin Master is a crank flying toy meant to bring to life the high-flying qualities of the beloved character Toothless, but falls short right out of the packaging. To prepare Toothless for flight, you'll need to position its tail up and adjust it to turn in the direction you want Toothless to fly. Then using the rubberband crank, turn it clockwise 50 times. Press the switch on its side as you toss Toothless lightly upwards. This is supposed to engage the rubberband motor and send Toothless flying 50 feet. But with our product, there was often a delayed reaction and then a frantic flight followed by a quick nosedive-it wasn't a pretty sight.

Is It Fun?

Overall, we found this toy to be disappointing, especially for Dragons fans looking to roleplay training their own dragon with this toy. Flying dragons are obviously a major part of the films and TV series, so a toy that can make one of the main and most popular dragons do so is a big deal. Unfortunately this toy didn't live up to its hype.

We also think that making a 4-year-old have to crank the toy 50 times to prep it for flight is a lot. The rubber band tightens the more you crank it, making it more difficult to crank. Plus, 50 is also a pretty high number for a 4-year-old to count up to.

Who It’s For

The Dragons Defenders of Berk Real Flying Toothless from Spin Master is for ages 4 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The toy is made for indoor and outdoor use and does work best outdoors or in an open area.

Replacement rubber bands are included. The first one we used snapped immediately, so it was definitely needed.
