Stella Batts: Who's in Charge? Review (Fashion Angels)

What It Is

Stella Batts: Who's in Charge? is the fifth book in the Stella Batts early chapter book series about an 8-year-old girl who loves to write. In this book, written by Courtney Sheinmel and illustrated by Jennifer A. Bell, Stella's best friend Evie is going on vacation, and Stella offers to dog-sit. Taking care of a dog is a big responsibility, but Stella thinks she can handle it. That is, until the dog runs away. Will the dog be found before Evie returns? And can Stella be trusted to ever be in charge again?

Is It Fun?

This is a nice chapter book for newly independent readers with black-and-white illustrations throughout the book to help kids visualize the story. The book paints a realistic portrait of a typical 8-year-old, making it easy for young readers to identify with Stella while also learning a lesson about responsibility and following the rules.
