Tetra, part of International Playthings' Game Zone brand, is a new twist on the classic game of Yahtzee. Instead of dice, players roll eight four-colored Tetras and group them according to the color that faces up. Keep any Tetras you want to save and roll up to two more times to try and create one of 12 color combinations, from two of a kind to an uneven split, which is four of one color and two each of two other colors. And, of course, if you get eight of the same color, you've rolled a "Yatzy." If you're unable to complete a category on your turn, you have to put down a 0. If you complete all 12 categories, you can play the "Call It" category where, before you roll, you call out the color you think will be facing up on the majority of the Tetras after one roll. If you get it correct, you earn 25 points. After all the categories are complete, the scores are totaled, and the winner is the player with the highest score.
Tetra is for two to six players, and it comes with eight Tetras, a score pad, and game rules.
This is a fun new twist on a classic game. The colorful Tetras pieces are pretty cool, and the scorekeeping is a bit simpler than that of traditional Yahtzee, making this game great for younger players.
Tetra is for ages 6 and up.
You'll need to provide your own pencils for scorekeeping.
