Por Que Siempre Hay Lugar Para El Postre Review (The New Foundation Press)

What It Is

Por Que Siempre Hay Lugar Para El Postre is the Spanish version of Why There Is Always Room For Dessert, a silly book that seeks to answer the age old question, "Why is there always room for dessert?" The book is written by Lynn Fielding, illustrated by Jeff Lee Johnson, and storyboarded by Sonnet Fielding. In the story, a family sits down to dinner and, as usual, the kids don't want to finish their vegetables. Mom announces that there will be no dessert until they finish those vegetables. The kids start to complain that they are too full of tomatoes and corn, but not too full for dessert. The kids, of course, question their parents how this is possible. Mom and dad explain in a whimsical way that little food people representing each food kids eat live inside every kid's tummy. And while all the other food people are full, the dessert one is starving and must be fed.

Is It Fun?

Unlike many translated books, this one actually takes the time to customize the story with new artwork and elements that cater to a Hispanic audience. And overall, this is a silly book with full-page illustrations that will entertain.
