Tiggly is an innovative new learning toy designed to work with iPad, using a variety of different open-ended, child-directed activities to engage children in a wide variety of essential skills: spatial thinking, motor skills, creativity, and language development. In the box, you'll find four rubberized shapes. You'll need to download the free apps from the app store-Tiggly Draw, Tiggly Stamp, and Tiggly Shapes-before playing. Activate the apps by touching the shapes to the screen, and kids are ready to play. The set has been designed for kids ages 18 months to 4 years, and while that's usually a virtually impossible age range to span, given the levels of development that occur in that period, the magic here is in the software. Kids can engage in open-ended play that encourages discovery and trial and error, or it can be more directed and creative. For example, in Tiggly Stamp, a younger child might randomly place the shapes on the screen and watch as the shapes transform into animals or other objects. An older child might be more directed, creating a story, which can be saved as a video or still picture. Both are valid play experiences. In Tiggly Safari, kids learn to identify basic animals, but they also develop perceptual and rudimentary reasoning abilities as the shapes transform into animals, which also fosters imagination. And this is just a small sample of all that's built into these intelligent, engaging, and engrossing apps.
We really love how kids are in control of the experience, and the gentle pace at which things happen in the different apps. The company says that more apps are in the pipeline, and if these three are any indication of what's to come, this will be the must-have toy for the 21st century toddler.
Tiggly Shapes is for ages 18 months-4 years.
Parents will be really happy to know that this works on any iPad running iOS 5.0 and above, which means it works great on older and newer generations of iPad.
