Spot It! Basic English plays like Blue Orange Games' original Spot It! game, but this one is designed to boost emergent reading skills in young kids. There are three ways to play, but the object is always the same: find two matching cards. The game includes 55 cards decorated with universal images and words for early readers, including sight words. There is always only one match between any two cards, and players try to be the first to find the match. Sometimes the match is between two images or two words, while other times it's a match between an image and its corresponding word. For example, a picture of socks and the word "socks". Depending on the game variation you're playing, finding a match means you either get to keep the cards or discard a card. The player with the most matching cards or no cards wins. The cards and instructions come packaged in a tin canister, which makes it great for taking on the go. The game is for two to eight players.
This is an easy-to-learn but challenging game because sometimes the matches are not instantly visible. As kids search for matches in this game, they practice word recognition and reading comprehension skills. Parents can play with the included advanced tips to explore using words in a sentence, rhyming, and spelling.
Spot It! Basic English is for ages 6 and up.
This game is also available in Spanish and French.
