Equator Review (Fingerprint Digital)

What It Is

Equator is a collaborative math game for the iPad. Designed for two players, the goal of the app is to bring balance to the Equator by creating an equation that equals the same total as the other player's equation. For instance, 6-1 gets the same total as 3+2. The sums of the equations are never provided, but each player is given at least three numbers and either a plus or a minus sign (or both). Players must work together and use their math knowledge and problem-solving skills to figure out which of the given numbers to add or subtract in order to create equal equations. As the game progresses, the puzzles become more challenging and begin to include multiplication and division. When kids complete objectives and math puzzles, they will unlock fun hats for customizing their game characters. There are four seasons to play through: summer, fall, winter, and spring. The app includes summer, but you'll need to unlock fall, winter, and spring through an in-app purchase of $2.99.

Is It Fun?

This is a great math skills reinforcement game for kids. Instead of turning it into something competitive, which could become frustrating for kids who aren't that good at math or who are just learning math basics, this game has players working together to figure out the correct math equations.

Who It’s For

Equator is for ages 6–8.

What To Be Aware Of

The app does include an ad for other Fingerprint Digital apps. If you click on the ad, a grown-up is then asked to enter a code in order to download. The code is provided, however, so kids could enter it themselves and be taken to the Apple App store where, if they know their parents' Apple password, they could easily finalize the purchase.

This app is compatible with the iPad and requires iOS 5.1 or later.
