RoboMe from WowWee is a remote control robot with three different movement modes and three games to play. In addition to the pre-loaded modes and games, RoboMe also has an accompanying app that can be downloaded to a mobile device to expand the play.
The three modes include Demo (a dance), room guard and roam. Roam and Dance are both very entertaining and kids will get a kick out of both. The games include a Magic 8 ball question and answer game, Follow the Leader, which is sort of like Simon Says and Shake My Hand, which has you shaking RoboMe's hand.
The modes and games are cute and funny but the real fun comes when you download the RoboMe app onto an iPhone or iPod Touch. The iOS device replaces RoboMe's face and turns it into a highly customizable robot with a lot of personality. You can change his face by selecting one of the presets then altering items like the eyes and background. But where the app gets really creative is in the programming of the robots responses. There are a set number of actions that you can do to the robot's face, like poke him in the eye. You then program how RoboMe will respond to that action using a simple drag and drop system. RoboMe can respond verbally and physically so you can make him get angry, yell something and then shake his head up and down or move his whole body away.
RoboMe is for kids ages 8 and up. Most kids at that age should have no problems controlling RoboMe with the remote but they might need a little help at first in figuring out the app.
As of the time of this review, the app is only available for the iPhone 4 and above, with a minimum of iOS 6 and the iPod Touch 4th generation.
