Schmovie is a game of outlandish films where players try to collect the most Schquid trophies by writing the best Schmovie titles based on random combinations of film genres and wacky characters. Whether playing individually or on a team, each player gets a turn as the Schmovie Producer. The Schmovie Producer rolls the genre die to determine the type of film for that round. Genres include sci-fi, drama, horror, romantic comedy, action, and producer's choice. If you land on producer's choice, you can choose any of the other five genres or select a different genre, such as western or documentary. Once the genre has been determined, the producer flips over a What? card and a Who? card. Then, the producer reads the genre and cards aloud. For example, "My Schmovie is a sci-fi movie about a wimpy zookeeper." Each player or team writes a name for the Schmovie on their title boards. Schmovie titles can be completely made up or parodies of actual movies. When everyone is finished writing a title (there is no time limit), players hand over their title boards, face down, to the producer. The producer then mixes up the boards, reads each title aloud, and places one of the Schquid trophies on top of his favorite title. If you are playing with three to four players or teams, be the first to earn five Schquids to win. If you are playing with five to six players or teams, be the first to earn five Schquids to win.
Schmovie comes with 85 What? cards, 85 Who? cards, a genre die, five erasable title boards, five erasable markers, 19 trophy bases, 19 Schquid trophies, and instructions. The game is for three or more players.
Schmovie is another game in the vein of Apples to Apples where one player is the judge and determines who wins that round. This game does have the potential to get really silly and laugh-out-loud funny as well as kind of dirty. The direction in which the game goes will depend on who is playing. This is definitely a game that will be more fun when played by people who have a sense of humor and who like movies.
Schmovie is for ages 13 and up.
You will need a tissue or napkin to wipe off the title boards.
We don't know why the Schmovie trophies are squids. The instructions say, "It's not a squid. It's a Schquid! And Schquids love Schmovies!" We'll take the company's word for it.
