Disney Princess Magical SmartPhone Review (VTech)

What It Is

The Princess Magical SmartPhone from VTech is a play phone and part of VTech's preschool learning series. Kids can keep the phone closed and use the top buttons to dial and practice their basic number skills in free play mode. Press the mail button to check your messages from the different princesses. Press the trumpet button to place pretend calls and receive messages from the different Disney Princesses. Then press the trumpet button with ribbons through it to cancel the call.

Slide out the hidden keyboard and press the "A/?" button to access game mode. Use the heart-shaped arrow keys to scroll through the different modes, which includes Letter Bubbles with Cinderella, Gem Shapes with the Seven Dwarves, Picture Perfect with Rapunzel, Shadow Shells with Ariel, Gift Trail with Aurora, Princess Challenge, and Music Time. In Letters Mode, for example, kids help Cinderella pop the bubbles to clean by pressing the indicated letter button to pop the bubbles. As with all the different games, there is a learning skill embedded in the game. In this mode, for example, kids are learning basic alphabet skills.

Is It Fun?

This phone has a lot of basic beginner features for fun learning and pretend play. Parents will like that it's compact enough to offer learning on the go.

Who It’s For

The Princess Magical SmartPhone is for ages 2–5, however we think it's best suited for kids on the lower end of the age spectrum. Because the games are basic, older kids will cycle through them fairly quickly, and will likely need more to hold their interest.
