Camelio Review (Vivitar)

What It Is

The Camelio is a kid-friendly Android tablet with a seven-inch touchscreen, wi-fi, front-and rear-facing cameras, and parental controls. It also includes 25 pre-loaded apps. Some of the apps feature kids' favorites, such as Cut the Rope and the free version of Draw Something. There are also social media apps, such as Google+, Twitter, and YouTube. Educational apps include the reading app MeeGenius, which includes six free e-books. Additional apps can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Parents can add up to five different users on the Camelio, and each user can have his or her own theme, profile picture, app preferences, and parental controls. The tablet's parental controls allow parents to block a child's access to certain apps. If a child taps on an app icon that is blocked, it will only open when mom or dad enters their parent lock code. In order to set up parental controls, you must have an existing Google account or create an account, which is free to do.

This tablet runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and comes with 1 GB of memory that is expandable to 4GB with a Micro SD card, which is sold separately. The Camelio also comes with a headphone jack, a built-in microphone, and a stereo speaker. It runs on a rechargeable lithium battery that takes about three hours for a full charge. That gives you between seven and nine hours of battery life, depending on how you use the tablet. It comes with a USB cord so that you can charge the tablet by connecting it to your computer and an AC adapter for plugging it into a wall outlet.

Is It Fun?

This is a tablet that can easily be shared by the whole family. Because it is customizable for each user and has parental controls, this tablet is suitable for preschoolers and adults. The tablet is lightweight, so it's easy for younger kids to hold, and it's easy to navigate. It is also a tablet that can grow with children because it can be used as a basic Android tablet as kids get older and no longer use the educational apps.

Who It’s For

The Camelio is for ages 3 and up. However, we feel that 3 is slightly young for this tablet. While kids may be able to use some of the apps, adult supervision and guidance is recommended. Older children will be able to get more use of the various features of this app.

What To Be Aware Of

The Camelio can also be customized with Camelio Personality Packs, which are sold separately. Each Personality Pack comes with a themed bumper case and allows users to customize wallpaper, widgets, lock screens, the camera, and the photo editor with favorite characters, including Monster High, Hello Kitty, Barbie, WWE, and Hot Wheels.
