Nabi Jr.-16 GB Review (Fuhu)

What It Is

The Nabi Jr.—16GB is a wifi-enabled, Android-powered tablet for preschoolers. It comes loaded with 10 games, 50 songs, and 30 books. Many of the apps feature favorite Nick Jr. characters, including Dora the Explorer, the Bubble Guppies, and Team Umizoomi. Additional apps can be purchased and downloaded from the Amazon App store as well as the Nabi App Zone.

The Nabi Jr.—16GB also comes with the Wings Learning System, a tablet-based adaptive learning system in reading, writing, and math for pre-K through 6th grade. Wings tailors courseware to strengths and weaknesses of your child's skill set level. Parents can use the tablet's N-SITE feature to gain insight on their child's performance strengths and trouble spots by grade, level, usage, and lessons.

Parents also have a lot of control over the content on this tablet. By entering Mommy/Daddy Mode, parents can filter websites, manage apps, manage the amount of time their child can spend on the Nabi Jr., and even create a chore checklist for their child.

The Nabi Jr. runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 Mobile Processor with Quad-Core CPU and 5th Battery-Saver Core. It comes with 16GB of memory, which can be expanded by an additional 32GB with a micro SD card, sold separately. The Nabi Jr. features a 180-degree rotating 2.0 MP camera/video recorder, Bluetooth, a five-inch touchscreen, two stereo speakers, a built-in microphone, and a removable drop-safe bumper. You can charge the rechargeable Li-Polymer battery by connecting the Nabi Jr. to a computer or the AC adapter. It has all the ports you'd expect, including USB, micro SD, and headphone jack. There is also a space for storing a stylus, but that is sold separately.

The back of the tablet has a grid that you can accessorize with letters or other items, called Kinabis. Kinabis are not sold with the Nabi Jr. unit. Kinabis are sold separately.
