Bejeweled Blitz Review (Hasbro)

What It Is

Bejeweled Blitz is an electronic beat-the-clock puzzle game based on the popular PopCap game Bejeweled. The object of the game is to play as many of your tiles as possible before the timer runs out. Press the button to start the timer and the music, which you'll probably recognize from the original Bejeweled. To play, you must put your tiles on the board in such a way that you create three identical gems in a row either horizontally or vertically. The clear spaces on the tiles let you see through to create three in a row as you stack them. The board is constantly changing, though, as you stack the tiles because only the gem on the top is available for play. This is a two-player game where both players play at once. You start out each with 18 tiles of three stacks of six, and you can only play the top tile from each stack. So, things can get pretty hectic and a little confusing. And the timer and flashing lights add even more stress, but that's what the game is all about. Play continues until one player is out of tiles or no more tiles can be played. The player who has played the most tiles wins the round, and after three rounds, wins the game.

Is It Fun?

You need a good eye and a quick hand to succeed at this. This is a classic puzzle game that adds the challenge of racing against the clock and an always-changing game board. This is a game that people of lots of different ages can play together. Lots of games do not translate well from the electronic game to a board game, but Hasbro has done a really good job capturing a lot of what has made the original Bejeweled so popular while creating a great head-to-head challenge.
