D.I.Y. Amazing Go-Go is a science model that is easy to build, though you'll want to be sure to follow the instructions closely. Then, once it's built, it can be powered either by sunlight, a 100-watt bulb, or a crank generator. The instructions give clear, age-appropriate information about how electricity is generated by these different sources. The connections are easy to make and to switch between power sources, and it's pretty cool to see the ways the different power propels the finished model. If you're outside, the solar panel moves 360 degrees to capture the light.
This is an engaging toy with solid science and lots of play. We like that the instructions provide age-appropriate scientific information so that kids can understand what it is they're building and how it all works.
The D.I.Y. Amazing Go-Go is for ages 8 and up.
You need to follow the instructions closely in order for the model to work correctly, but that's also integral to the understanding of the mechanics of the model. Some of the connections are a little complicated, so adult participation may be needed for some younger kids. You'll also need to change the connections if you're using the crank generator or the solar panel, but that's easily done.
