Cards Against Humanity Review (Cards Against Humanity LLC)

What It Is

Cards Against Humanity is, as the tagline says, "a party game for horrible people." The gameplay is similar to Apples to Apples but the cards are offensively funny and sometimes simply offensive. Each player starts by drawing 10 white answer cards and one player is chosen as the game's "Card Czar" for each round. The Card Czar then draws a black card. Black cards feature questions or fill-in the blanks. The rest of the players must then select a card from their hand they feel best suits the question or fill-in and pass it face down to the Card Czar. The Card Czar then shuffles the cards, reads each answer aloud, and selects the winning card for the round. The winning card is completely based on the Card Czar's opinion and the winning player for the round gets to keep the black card, which is worth one "awesome point." The next player becomes the Card Czar and players draw another white card to add to their hand. Play continues until you finish the deck of cards or players decide to end the game.

Players can gamble to earn more points. If a black card is played and a player has more than one white card he thinks could win, you can bet one of your awesome points to play an additional card. Win and keep your points. Lose, and the round's winner takes your wagered point.

The game guide features additional rules and plays that can be used to make gameplay more interesting or to change up overall gameplay. For example, add the house rule Survival of the Fittest and after everyone has answered a black card, players take turns eliminating one white card. The last remaining card is declared the funniest and that player wins the round.

Is It Fun?

Cards Against Humanity is a card game in which you need to know your audience, and it's not a game we'd recommend for everyone. The gameplay, itself, is only fun as long as players don't get easily offended. The majority of the cards are either offensive and inappropriate, or can be construed that way when played. This is a game that requires players with a sense of humor who understand sarcasm.
