Once Upon a Zombie Rapunzel Review (WowWee)

What It Is

WowWee's Zombie Rapunzel is part of a new doll line based on the Once Upon a Zombie property from The Toon Studio of Beverly Hills, which casts a curse on fairytale princesses and transforms them into zombies. Zombie Rapunzel features rooted hair in her trademark long braid as well as walking dead features such as light gray skin, wide glass eyes fixed in a trance, and zombie stitches across her mouth, leg, and arm. But even though Rapunzel is a zombie doesn't mean she's stopped being a princess. And as a princess, she wears a princess-style dress in metallic purple with a sheer black tattered overlay trimmed in gold. The doll is also fully articulated with poseable arms, hands, legs, and head.

Is It Fun?

With the increased fascination with zombies and darker fairytales seen across pop culture, and the increasing popularity of monster-style twists in the doll aisle, Zombie Rapunzel will appeal to those fans. Fans of the classic fairytales can also use the dolls to build upon the new storylines, place the doll in zombie-like poses, and more.

Who It’s For

Zombie Rapunzel is for ages 6 and up. However, it's most likely to appeal to older kids who get the irony of this. It will probably not appeal to younger kids who may not easily grasp the mash-up of princesses and zombies.

What To Be Aware Of

The line includes five additional zombie princess characters— Zombie Little Mermaid, Zombie Snow White, Zombie Sleeping Beauty, Zombie Cinderella, and Zombie Belle.

Girls can also interact with the characters via the free Once Upon a Zombie app, which lets you zombify your own pictures using stickers and effects. The app is available for iOS and Android devices.

A collector doll stand and brush are also included.
