Fijit Friends Shimmies Review (Mattel)

What It Is

Mattel continues to add new characters to its Fijit Friends line. The latest additions are Shimmies. There are three Shimmies characters: Polka, Spinrose, and Whirlina. Each is sold separately. The Shimmies love to shake and shimmy, but they need kids to help them practice their dancing. There are three ways to play with the Shimmies.

In Nurture Mode, you can pet and tickle your Shimmies by pressing the head button and the belly button.

To enter Teach Me to Dance Mode, press and hold the belly button for two seconds. In this mode, you can choose one of three built-in songs. As the music plays, the LED light on the Shimmies' chest will flash to the beat. Press the belly button to the beat to help the Shimmies dance. When you're done, the Shimmies will show you her full dance and sing.

To enter Rock Out Mode, press and hold the head button for two seconds. This is a freestyle mode in which your Shimmies will dance to the beat of your favorite music. Play a song from an external music source or sing to your Shimmies to watch it dance.

Multiple Shimmies can dance together if you press their flower buttons at the same time. This will also work with a Fijit Newbie, which is sold separately. Shimmies can also interact with the original Fijit Friends, sold separately.

Is It Fun?

Fans of the original Fijit Friends will like playing, dancing, and interacting with the Shimmies. Just like all the other Fijit characters, the Shimmies are cute and collectible. There's a lot of play built into the Shimmies, and we like that these can interact and dance with some of the other Fijit characters, which is great for kids who own some of the others.

Who It’s For

Fijit Friends Shimmies is for ages 6 and up.
