Bailey at the Museum Review (Scholastic)

What It Is

Bailey the dog who goes to school is back in his second book. This time, Bailey’s class is off to the Museum of Natural History. While the students listen to their guide talk about dinosaurs and other fascinating things, Bailey gets into mischief. For example, while at the dinosaur exhibit, Bailey just can’t resist snacking on dinosaur bones. So, the teacher appoints a museum guard as his special buddy. Although Bailey still gets into some minor trouble, the two become fast friends.

Is It Fun?

As the school year winds down, many classes are taking field trips, which makes this book a very timely pick for the classroom. The original Bailey book was very popular, and this one should be as well. The hand-drawn illustrations are very colorful, and the comic-book style speech and thought bubbles provide witty commentary about the action as well as some interesting museum facts.

Who It’s For

Children from preschool age and older should enjoy Bailey at the Museum.

What To Be Aware Of

Never take a dog to a place that has ancient (and valuable) bones!
