InnoTab 2 Baby Review (VTech)

What It Is

The InnoTab 2 Baby is like the original InnoTab 2 but with special content geared toward even the youngest of learners. Like the original InnoTab 2, the Baby version includes a rotating camera and video recorder, an MP3 music player, an e-book reader, a video player, an art studio, and other fun apps for children to play with as they grow. There are also four pre-loaded activities geared toward infants and toddlers, including a Noah's Ark e-book, 12 sing-along nursery rhyme songs, a drawing activity, and a coloring activity. And the InnoTab 2 Baby includes two Baby Signs videos from Baby Signs, Inc., a leader in sign language for hearing babies. The tablet also comes with a Baby Animals Photo Album cartridge.

The InnoTab 2 Baby's customizable welcome screen allows parents to add their baby's photo and create a recorded greeting with their own voice. The tablet's soft, removable gel bumper helps protect the InnoTab 2 Baby from drops and tumbles.

When parents register the InnoTab 2 Baby through VTech's Learning Lodge, they'll receive two free downloadable apps of their choice (not including premium content), and parents can purchase more apps and cartridges any time by downloading content through the Learning Lodge. The InnoTab 2 Baby is compatible with all InnoTab content in the Learning Lodge. Parents can also keep track of their baby's progress with the Learning Lodge.

The InnoTab 2 Baby includes two styluses, a USB cable, and a Learning Lodge Navigator installation CD. It has a five-inch color display and an SD card slot. It comes with 2 GB of memory, and if you need to add more memory, you can insert an SD card, sold separately, for up to an extra 32 GB.

Is It Fun?

With the InnoTab 2 Baby, even the youngest child can enjoy e-books, music, photos, and more. This tablet comes with lots of age-appropriate activities to keep babies engaged. And because the InnoTab 2 Baby is compatible with all other InnoTab content, this tablet will grow with your child.

Who It’s For

The InnoTab 2 Baby is for ages 1–9. However, that really refers to the age level of the software. Older kids will most likely not want to play with something marked "Baby." For them, the regular Innotab 2S is a better choice. It has the same technology but different decoration.

What To Be Aware Of

Four AA batteries are required but not included. An AC adapter is also available and sold separately.

The InnoTab 2 Baby is available exclusively at Walmart.

We thought that the tablet's touchscreen was not as responsive as we would have liked when using either our finger or a stylus. That might be frustrating for kids.
