Korner’d Review (Endless Games)

What It Is

Korner'd is a game for one to six players where the object is to match your tiles to the patterns on the board. It's not as easy as it sounds. To play, each player selects three tiles and places them facedown on the table. Then all players turn over their tiles at the same time and try to match the configuration of colors to the squares on the board. There's only one solution for each tile. The player who correctly places all his or her tiles first wins.

Is It Fun?

This game is not easy, but it is challenging and fun. From a learning perspective, this is an ingenious game that challenges kids' perceptual abilities, such as being able to rotate pieces in their mind, understanding patterns and sequencing, and the positioning of colors. One of the things we really like about this is that it has the potential to be a quiet game, and it's one that, over time, will help kids develop and refine their perceptual abilities. It's all in a fun context, as well.

Who It’s For

Korner'd is for ages 8 and up. However, for co-play with parents, the basic concept is easy enough for a 6-year-old to get, though they might get a little frustrated at the time it takes.

What To Be Aware Of

An interesting sidenote: Endless Games discovered that this game was very effective for kids on the Autism Spectrum, and that, from playing individually, children were eventually able to engage in social play with other children. The pace of the game and individual nature of the searching makes this a good game for introducing kids to social interaction, as it doesn't overstimulate kids in the process and allows them a level of co-play that's appropriate for each individual child.

For any child, we really like that this takes some time to figure out, and it can even be a little bit frustrating. That makes the thrill of achievement even more exciting.
