Duck & Goose, Goose Needs A Hug Review (Schwartz & Wade Books)

What It Is

In Duck & Goose, Goose Needs a Hug, written and illustrated by Tad Hills, preschoolers discover the one thing that Goose needs. Goose is feeling sad, but every time he tries to tell his friends what he needs, they interrupt him. They think they already know what Goose needs. Perhaps playing hide-and-seek or a game of tag will cheer up Goose. Maybe standing on his head or splashing in puddles will do the trick. Finally, Goose interrupts his friends as they sing him a happy song to let them know that what he really wants is a hug. To which his friends respond, "Well, why didn't you say so?"

Is It Fun?

This board book is a cute way to remind preschoolers (and adults) to listen to others' needs. It also reminds readers that everyone needs a hug at some time. This book allows parents to open up a conversation with their preschoolers about feelings and, of course, give their children a hug at the end.

Who It’s For

Duck & Goose, Goose Needs a Hug is for ages 2–5.
