Teenie Greenies The Little Recycler Review (Random House)

What It Is

Teenie Greenies The Little Recycler is a 16-page lift-the-flap board book that takes toddlers on an environmentally friendly ride through the basics of recycling. Author and illustrator Jan Gerardi's rhyming text tells the journey that bottles, paper, plastic, and tin take from recycling bins at home to the recycling center where it's melted, shredded, crushed, and reused to make something new. The book also encourages children to recycle other materials (such as paint and printer ink), donate items (such as clothes, shoes, and toys) to other kids, and reuse items (such as a cardboard box) for playtime at home.

Is It Fun?

Young children will probably not understand all the concepts in this book no matter how simply they are presented. While the flaps are large and easy for small hands to lift, they are also a little thin and flimsy and might not hold up well to a lot of repeat use. However, this is a cute book that environmentally friendly parents can use to introduce those values to their children.
