Play-Doh: Making Shapes with Monkey Review (Silver Dolphin Books)

What It Is

Play-Doh: Making Shapes with Monkey encourages children to make shapes with Play-Doh. In this 14-page board book, written by Michele Boyd and illustrated by Kara Kenna, preschoolers are introduced to the monkey's collection of shapes. Monkey's friends ask him to make them different objects out of shapes, such as a birdhouse, a kite, a wagon, and a flower. Monkey is happy to oblige and assembles circles, squares, rectangles, and stars out of Play-Doh to fulfill his friends' requests. In the end, his friends present him with the best shape of all: a heart.

Is It Fun?

The simple text and Play-Doh illustrations in this book make it great for introducing children to shapes and providing a stepping stone for kids to start making their own Play-Doh creations. As parents and children read the book together, they can work together to make their own shapes out of Play-Doh just like the monkey.
