Kids can build and interact with the characters and structures from the Angry Birds Space app in the physical world, thanks to building sets from K'NEX. The 239-piece Ice Bird Breakdown building set lets kids build and destroy a level from the app. Follow the instructions to assemble the structure and add the three evil pigs and golden space egg to the structure. Build the launcher to send the red bird and ice bird flying toward the structure. To launch the birds, attach the two pieces of the launcher into the back of one of the birds. Then pinch the pieces together to send the bird flying.
Fans of the Angry Birds Space app will enjoy building their own structures and creating a real-life skill-and-action Angry Birds game. Kids may want to play this like the app, but the building set comes with no scoring system. Kids can create their own scoring system if they want to play a game that has winners and losers, but some kids who just like to crash things might enjoy it as it is.
Angry Birds Space Ice Bird Breakdown is for ages 5 and up.
There's a bit of a learning curve with the launcher. It may take some patience and practice to figure out how to angle the launcher so that the bird goes in the direction you want it to. For younger kids, adult assistance may be necessary during the learning process.
This set took us 45 minutes to assemble. The instructions are not very clear. While you want the pieces to be loose enough that you can knock them down when you launch the birds, the pieces are a little too unstable and easily fall apart during assembly, which can be frustrating for kids.
