Tablets for Kids: Galaxy Tab 2 Review (Samsung)

What It Is

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is an Android tablet device with 1GB RAM and 16 GB of memory, which can be expanded to 32 GB via a microSD card (sold separately). The tablet has a 1 GHz dual-core processor and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. There are two cameras: a main/rear 3 megapixel camera and a sub/front camera to be used for video calls. The tablet has wi-fi connectivity, an accelerometer, a digital compass, and a light. It operates on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 comes with a pre-installed lithium ion battery, a travel adapter, a USB cable, and a Quick Start guide.

Is It Fun?

Overall, we found the experience of using the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to not be so great for kids. This tablet is easy to navigate and runs like a typical Android device. The picture quality was good, but we wish it was better. And while it's easy to download apps, we wish the screen resolution was better, especially for younger kids who really want a crisp resolution. We didn't find the resolution of this screen to be as good as other tablets.

For adults, it's a different story. YouTube is great, and the speakers are unbelievable. It's rare to find speakers on tablets like the speakers on the Galaxy Tab 2. The sound is amazing.

This is a good tablet for adults, but for kids, it wouldn't be at the top of our list.

Who It’s For

Because this is not a toy, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is not age-graded.
