The Croods Tar Pit Playset Review (Fisher-Price)

What It Is

The Croods is a new animated movie from DreamWorks about the world's first prehistoric family going on a road trip. Kids can play out that storyline with The Croods Tar Pit Playset. There are four play features on this playset. The playset comes with a Grug figure, and kids can use the rib cage claw to swing Grug on the platform. But be careful because the ferocious Macawnivore is ready to come out from behind the tree to scare Grug. Press down on the platform to cause the tree to slide away, revealing the Macawnivore and causing Grug to fall off the platform in shock. The "sticky" tar below breaks Grug's fall, but the sliding tree has dislodged a boulder, which is now rolling toward Grug. Kids can help Grug break free from the "sticky" tar and run to safety in the cave.

Is It Fun?

Preschoolers who are fans of the movie The Croods will like interacting with Grug off of the movie screen. Kids will like the action of helping Grug escape the Macawnivore and boulder in this playset, but they can also imagine all-new action-packed adventures for Grug.

Who It’s For

The Tar Pit Playset is for The Croods fans ages 3 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The Croods is rated PG, which may mean that the story and some of the action may not be appropriate for children in the designated age-range for the movie. Only the trailer was available at the time of this review, but it has some violence and sophisticated themes that will likely be over the heads of 3- and 4-year-olds.

While the rib cage claw has good range of motion, it's a little hard to swing Grug onto the platform because the claw can only be moved at its base. The claw arm does not move at all and is too long to reach the platform.
