Zoo Champs Review (Bookva Press)

What It Is

Zoo Champs is a sports guide for kids. The app introduces your child to many of the Olympic and everyday sports. Kids engage with colorful characters, and in the process, pick up tons of facts about each sport. Start by choosing from one of the 30 sports in the app, including swimming, cycling, and gymnastics. You'll then see a colorful graphic showing the sport. On the bottom of the page are short descriptions that you can scroll through. You'll also notice a speaker button on the screen, allowing you to have the text read aloud. As kids listen to the descriptions, they will hear facts, jokes, and questions to think about. Each page has very light interactivity. There aren't specific games to play. Each page has a video-like feel for watching a zoo animal engage in each given sport. Some pages do have hot spots to explore.

You'll also notice a sheet of paper on the right-hand side of the screen. These are the fact sheets. When you tap on a fact sheet, you'll find that they are not read aloud, so young kids can't use this portion of the app on their own. Many of the sheets do have light interactivity with questions or images that kids unveil with a swipe of the finger.

Is It Fun?

Overall, the app creates a nice balance of interactivity and learning about each sport through the kid-friendly descriptions and fact sheets.
