Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage? is based on the Cartoon Network series Adventure Time and is just as insane as the show itself. The game opens with the show’s main characters, Finn and Jake, finding out that the Ice King has stolen their garbage, and they set off on an adventure to get their garbage back.
The game features a large map that players will explore and encounter multiple side-scrolling levels within the map. In the levels, players will work their way across the screen in search of objects and items that will then be used in the game and the search for Jake and Finn’s garbage.
Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! is fun because it is so funny and wacky. The game is filled with characters with names like Princess BubbleGum, Tree Trunks and Lumpy Space Princess as well as some of the strangest enemies (Sign Monsters) that we have ever seen outside of a Nintendo game.
This is more than just a goofy game; it’s also a really good side-scroller adventure that looks great on the 3DS’ 3-D screen. Like most adventure games, you get edible items when you defeat enemies that can increase your health. Unlike most games, these items range from simple snacks, like apples, to more interesting items such as a plate of pancakes. Many of the food items can be combined for a greater health boost. For example, if you have pancakes and a bottle of syrup, you can eat them both separately or combine to make pancakes with syrup, which has a larger health boost than either on its own.
The biggest fans of this game are going to be fans of the show. Because the show is so quirky, its fans are a wide range of ages, and among them, the game is going to appeal most to the young gamers, especially around the ages of 8 to 10.
Content-wise, the game is filled with fart jokes and gross humor that is mostly harmless and funny. If you are thinking of giving the game to a young gamer who likes to repeat what they hear, be warned that they might end up quoting lines about "pooty bootays" and similar material.
Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! is rated E10+ for animated blood, cartoon violence and comic mischief.
The game is available for the Nintendo 3DS and DS systems.
