Dot Jewelry Review (Klutz)

What It Is

With Dot Jewelry, kids can make necklaces and bracelets using colorful paper dots. The kit comes with more than 1,600 pre-cut paper pieces in a rainbow of colors and patterns. There are a few shiny sequins and accent shapes, including circles, rings, petals, stars, and hearts, but most of the pieces are the paper dots. Simply glue the dots onto the durable, clear cord to make one-of-a-kind jewelry. The exclusive two-in-one dot tool picks up dots and crimps the cord ends to securely finish each piece. Two fold-out work surfaces (a ruler and a clear card) make it easy to create both straight and curved strands as well as multi-strand creations. There is also a sliding cord holder to hold the cord in place while you work. The kit also comes with glue and 45 feet of clear nylon cord. The 56-page book is filled with ideas and inspiration as well as step-by-step instructions for making everything from simple one-strand bracelets to statement necklaces. The kit also comes with 14 dot-by-number templates to help kids make the more complex designs.

Is It Fun?

Kids who like making their own jewelry will find the Dot Jewelry kit really appealing and fun. This kit gives kids everything they need to make unique, wearable jewelry. Some of the jewelry designs are more complicated than others, so kids may want to start with the easier creations at the beginning of the book and work their way up to the more intricate designs.

Who It’s For

Dot Jewelry is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

In addition to the tools included with Dot Jewelry, kids will also need scissors, toothpicks, and a marker. The kit has built-in storage for the supplies, but if you want to be a little more organized, you can use a zip-top plastic bag to store the items.

This activity can take anywhere from 25 minutes to make a simple bracelet to one hour for the more complicated items, such as double- or triple-strand necklaces or animal and flower pendants. No matter how long it takes your child to make a dot jewelry item, remember that creating the jewelry is part of the fun and play.
