The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey An Unexpected Gathering Review (LEGO)

What It Is

Kids can play out scenes from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which hits theaters December 14, 2012, with the An Unexpected Gathering building set. This 652-piece, double-sided set brings to life the scene when Gandalf the Grey invites the dwarves to Bag End and the hobbit home of Bilbo Baggins. On one side of the set is the outside of Bilbo's home. But open the door and turn the set around to reveal the interior of the hobbit hole, complete with a table full of food and drink. Six minifigures are included with this set: Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo Baggins in his shire outfit, Balin the dwarf, Dwalin the dwarf, Bombur the dwarf, and Bofur the dwarf. Some of the minifigures have two faces, so kids can turn a figure's head and change its facial expression. The set comes with seven weapons and assorted accessories.

Is It Fun?

Fans and collectors will appreciate all the detail that went into bringing Bilbo's hobbit hole to life. This set will engage kids in lots of imaginative play.

Who It’s For

An Unexpected Gathering is for The Hobbit fans ages 9–14.

What To Be Aware Of

It took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to assemble this set. The instructions were very easy to follow. The pieces are divided into four separate bags, and the instructions show you how to build using the pieces in the first bag, then the second bag, and so on. Don't mix the pieces from the four bags together or building will become confusing.
