Kids can play out scenes from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which hits theaters December 14, 2012, with the Attack of the Wargs building set. The company of dwarves has just escaped the goblins of The Misty Mountains, but they're under attack again by Yazneg and two orcs riding Wargs. With the 400 pieces in this set, kids can catapult the dwarves into the leafy branches of the buildable, rotating tree. When the orcs try to burn down the tree, use the tree's magic flame shooter function to fight back. The set includes five minifigures (Thorin Oakenshield, Bifur the Dwarf, Yazneg, and two Hunter Orcs) with assorted weapons. The dwarf minifigures have two faces, so kids can turn their heads around to reveal either an everyday face or a battle face. Accessories include four large flame elements, two campfires, two rock ledges, and two Wargs. The mouths of the Wargs open and close, and their heads can be moved up and down.
This set has lots of great detail and features that fans and collectors will appreciate. There's lots of built-in action to bring the movie scene to life and engage kids in imaginative play.
Attack of the Wargs is for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey fans ages 8–14.
This set took us one hour and 20 minutes to assemble. The instructions were very easy to follow. The pieces are divided into three bags, and there are step-by-step instructions on how to build with the first bag, then the second, then the third. Don't mix together the pieces from all three bags or building may become confusing.
The catapult function isn't powerful enough to actually send the dwarf minifigures soaring into the tree. But kids can launch the figures and then pretend that the dwarves have landed on a tree branch.
