The Elf on the Shelf Products Review (CCA and B, LLC)

What It Is

One of the newest Christmas traditions that has really taken off over the past few years has been The Elf on the Shelf. As the story surrounding this toy goes, a little elf is sent to your home from Santa during the Christmas season to keep an eye on your child and see if he or she has been naughty or nice. Every evening while your child sleeps, the elf flies off to the North Pole to report back to Santa. When your child wakes up in the morning, the elf will have returned from the North Pole and will be sitting in a new (sometimes humorous) place in your home. To preserve the elf's magic, your child is not allowed to touch it, however, kids can speak to the elf and tell it what's on their Christmas list. On Christmas Eve, the elf flies back to the North Pole until the next holiday season.

The Elf on the Shelf is available in boy or girl with light skin or dark skin, black hair or brown hair, and brown eyes or blue eyes. The main The Elf on the Shelf product includes an elf and a storybook. It retails for $29.95.

Additional Elf on the Shelf products include An Elf's Story DVD ($9.95) and Blu-ray ($14.95), An Elf's Story Book with Sound($14.99), An Elf's Story Coloring Book ($3.99), a set of An Elf's Story figurines ($12.99), and a stuffed version of the elf ($12.95).

Is It Fun?

Creating family traditions around the holidays can be lots of fun and helps make memories that last a lifetime. The Elf on the Shelf concept is one that families can experience together. Of course, parents are the masterminds behind the whole experience and must use their imaginations to come up with clever and funny places for the elf to "appear" the next morning. For parents who are willing to invest the time and energy, this has the potential to create a memorable tradition that can last for several years. This toy can also be helpful for parents because with just a gentle reminder that the elf is watching, kids usually stop their crazy behavior and pull it together real quick.
