Ruby’s Sleepover Review (Barefoot Books)

What It Is

Ruby and her friend Mai are going to camp out under the stars. They excitedly snuggle in their sleeping bags, but then the weird night noises begin. Their imagination takes flight and they conjure up images of giants, dragons and pirates. Thanks to some magic objects in Ruby’s backpack, they are able to brave it through the night.

Is It Fun?

Sleepovers are a favorite activity for kids, but they often get cold feet, especially at a young age. Ruby’s story is a great way to prepare small children for sleepovers at a friend or relative’s house. Parents can also use this book to open a discussion with their kids about things that go bump in the night and how they can deal with their fears. The rhyming story is simple and fun to read, and the illustrations are very engaging as well.

Who It’s For

The publisher recommends this book for ages 3 to 7, but the simple story and graphic style will appeal mostly to kids on the younger end of this range.

What To Be Aware Of

Because this book is from a smaller publisher, it might have limited availability in libraries. However, it is available in a budget-friendly paperback.
