Fashion Forms Review (Klutz)

What It Is

Fashion Forms is a step-by-step kit that lets little fashionistas create miniature paper dresses, skirts, blouses, purses, and more that they can display on 9.5-inch dress stands. The kit comes with plastic guides kids use like real sewing patterns to trace and cut the included double-sided designer papers. The resulting shapes can be folded, wrapped, rolled, and creased into fashion pieces: tops, skirts, coats, and more. Combine the pieces to create complete outfits, then use the included ribbons and sequins to embellish the creations.

Fashion Forms comes with a 68-page book, three dress stands, five hangers, 20 sheets of double-sided patterned paper, six sheets of tissue paper, a plastic stencil sheet, 18 plastic pattern pieces, three yards of satin ribbon, 500 sequins, and a squeeze bottle of glue.

Is It Fun?

Fashion Forms is a cute way for kids who are into fashion to create their own fashionable outfits out of paper. Once the outfits are created, kids can put their paper creations on display.

Who It’s For

Fashion Forms is for ages 8 and up, but we found the instructions pretty complicated for an 8-year-old to follow. The pieces are small and some of the patterns are intricate. The directions are not very clear, so parental help is needed. You'll want to start off with a simple pattern first, such as the A-line skirt, and then progress to the more complicated patterns.

What To Be Aware Of

The kit does not include scissors.

This requires a lot of patience and concentration, and it's very difficult to get the kind of results you see in the accompanying booklet.
