Words with Friends Review (Hasbro)

What It Is

The popular mobile game Words with Friends was originally launched by the gamemaker Zynga on Facebook. What made it really successful was the fluidity of social interaction in a virtual world. Hasbro signed a licensing deal to produce real-world versions of the game.

There is no online connection with the Words with Friends game, so this may remind you of just a simple game of Scrabble. The arrangement of the bonus squares on the board is a bit different, however, in order to replicate the mobile game. The object is to score the most points by making words with the letter tiles you've drawn. If you want to, you can still use your mobile device in this game by downloading a word check and score pad from http://zynga.tm/WWFfacetoface.com.

Words with Friends comes with a full-size board, four curved tile racks, a tile bag, and 104 letter tiles. The game is for two to four players.

Is It Fun?

If you're a Words with Friends fan and want to play the game face-to-face with real friends, this might be the game for you. However, if you already own a Scrabble game, that will work just as well. Both Words with Friends and Scrabble offer great social experiences and great gameplay that balances luck, strategy, and knowledge.

Who It’s For

Words with Friends is for ages 13 and up. We think this age grading seems a little high, as many younger kids have graduated from Scrabble Junior to the adult version by age 10. Of course, the game will vary by the players' vocabulary skills.

What To Be Aware Of

When you purchase the Words with Friends game, you also receive a bundle of digital features to enhance the online or mobile game experience, including Word-O-Meter, The Count, and Tile Pile.
