Apptivity Batman is an app-toy for the iPad that includes a Batman figure that becomes the controller for the Batman app game. The game, which you download from the Apple App Store, is based on the movie, The Dark Knight Rises, and lets kids play as Batman and fight against Bane and his cronies across the roof-tops of Gotham city.
The figure is a chunky, squat Batman that kids can play with even when they are not playing the game but it is most fun when used with the game. There is a button on the figure's base, which launches Batman's weapons. The weapons appear on the iPad screen as if they were coming from the figure itself.
Once kids place the Batman figure on the iPad, the game will recognize the figure and begin. The game features crisp, comic book style graphics that glide by as you move the figure across the iPad's screen.
This is a classic good guys versus bad guys game, with lots of action, chases and chances to use Batman's arsenal of weapons and moves. The game feels like a comic book come to life, and like any video game there's a bit of a learning curve, which will keep kids engaged as the go through the game.
Kids, ages four to seven should enjoy this game, which is easier to play than older kids' console games.
The toy is similar in scale to Mattel's Rumblers WWE figures, which appeal to younger players as well.
There is shooting and cartoon violence in the game, but that's part of Batman play.
Like any video game, there is a learning curve kids are going to have to master to get the most out of this toy.
Unlike many app toys, kids can play this game without the figure using their fingers instead. This method is a bit cumbersome and not as much fun as playing with the figure.
