The Lord of the Rings Attack on Weathertop Review (LEGO)

What It Is

With the Attack on Weathertop building set, kids can build and recreate the scene from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring where the Ringwraiths come after Frodo atop the ancient fortress ruins of Weathertop. This 430-piece set includes five minifigures: Aragorn, Frodo, Merry, and two Ringwraiths. The Ringwraith figures can either sit on top of their horses or be removed from the horses. The horses' heads and back legs also move. Frodo, Merry, and Aragorn each have two faces so kids can give the figures battle faces when it's time to fight. Accessories include five swords, a torch, and a ring. The Weathertop fortress features a tree, a flick missile function, a trapdoor, a weapon rack, a pedestal, and a fireplace with food. The fortress opens up so that kids can play inside.

Is It Fun?

There is a lot of great detail in this set that will appeal to fans of The Lord of the Rings. We like the horses' red eyes and their poseability. While some of the mechanics of the set are not from the movie (trapdoor, flick missiles), they add action to the set and allow kids to make up their own version of the Weathertop battle.

Who It’s For

The Attack on Weathertop set is for The Lord of the Rings fans and collectors ages 8–14.

Adult fans of LOTR will enjoy this as well.

What To Be Aware Of

It took an expert builder about an hour to build this set. You should count on this taking a little longer, but enjoy the fun of assembly! No matter how long it takes you to build, remember that building is part of the fun of LEGO.

Even though Sam and Pippin were also in this scene in the movie, their minifigures are not included.
