The Disney AppClix is a point-and-shoot camera that plugs directly into an iPad for easy photo uploading. The 7.1 megapixel camera features a slide-out connector that plugs into the iPad's dock connector. Then, using the free Disney Pix app that you download from the iTunes app store, you can upload your photos. Once uploaded, the Disney Pix app lets kids edit their photos with stickers, frames, backgrounds, text, and more. Kids can then share their photos via email or save the photo to the Photo Gallery.
The camera offers a 4x digital zoom and a 1.5-inch preview screen on the back of the camera. There are a lot of in-camera options, but it's not necessary to utilize any of them in order to take a picture. We doubt that young kids are really going to be concerned with white balancing, for example. The camera comes with an AC charger, a wrist strap, a built-in lithium ion battery, and a 32MB micro SD memory card. It is available in Tinker Bell, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Disney Princess, or Phineas and Ferb designs.
The Disney AppClix cameras have fun designs that Disney fans will like. The camera itself is easy to use and very lightweight, making it easy for kids to carry around and hold. The free app is also easy to use and a lot of fun. Kids will like adding cool elements to their photos and sharing them with friends and family.
While there is no specific age grading on the box, we think Disney AppClix is best for Disney fans ages 6–10.
Disney AppClix works with any iPad with iOS version 5.0 or greater.
When you upload the pictures onto the iPad, they go into the iPad's Camera Roll. In the app, if you want to select a picture from the Camera Roll, you'll need to turn on Location Services for the Disney Pix app. Go to the iPad's Settings and choose Location Services. Then choose "on" for Disney Pix. Why this is necessary, we don't know.
The camera has an Auto Power Off feature that will automatically turn off the camera after a specific period of inactivity.
Disney AppClix is sold at B&H Photo and Walmart.
