7-in-1 Rechargeable Solar Transformers Review (OWI)

What It Is

The 7-in-1 Rechargeable Solar Transformers kit lets kids build different vehicles that are powered by the sun. Using snap-together plastic pieces, a solar panel, and accessories, kids assemble a recharging station that also doubles as a truck and one of five vehicles: a concept car, a concept racer, a dump truck, a bulldozer, or a solar car. The recharging station has two output plugs: one for recharging using the sun and the other for battery recharging. The battery charging station charges one vehicle in about five seconds. The solar recharging station fully recharges in about 120 seconds. After being charged, a vehicle's run time is approximately 50-80 seconds. The back of the packaging can be cut out to form a stunt ramp for the vehicles.

Is It Fun?

With no tools required and a quick charge time, it's easy for kids to build the vehicles and set them in motion. For a science kit, it's not very heavy on the science in terms of explaining to kids how what they've built works. But it's a nice hands-on introduction to using solar energy.

Who It’s For

The 7-in-1 Rechargeable Solar Transformers kit is for ages 10 and up. It is ideal for kids who love building and who have an interest in science, but it's easy enough to use and understand that even kids who have only a casual interest in science will enjoy building the vehicles.

What To Be Aware Of

You may need extra tools such as a diagonal cutter and scissors to cut apart the plastic pieces the first time you use this kit.

Two AAA batteries are required to power the battery charging station.

Because the vehicles share the same parts, kids can only build the recharging station and one vehicle at a time.
