Best Pals Collection Review (KatJan, Inc.)

What It Is

Today's moms and grandmothers may remember the famous singing Lennon Sisters. The two surviving sisters, Kathy and Janet, called each other "best pals" as they were growing up. They are still wowing crowds today as they perform. Inspired by the handmade dolls they had as kids, Kathy and Janet have created a line of dolls, music, and accessories that recall "a simpler time."

The doll line includes 16-inch soft cloth rag dolls with different hair colors and skin tones, including Kathy, Janet, Lily, Isabelle, Sofia, and Danny. Each doll is made of soft cotton with embroidered facial features and yarn hair. The clothes are removable, changeable, and washable.

Also available is the All Aboard for Blanket Bay CD, featuring lullabies performed by Kathy and Janet; Mini Best Pals, which are five-inch versions of the original Best Pals dolls; a Tin Tea Set that comes with service for four, complete with a colorful serving tray and carrying case; and Lennon Sisters paper dolls that were originally introduced in 1959. Each is sold separately.

Is It Fun?

This is a wonderful, nostalgic line that offers lots of basic, open-ended play. Parents, grandparents, and even contemporary little girls respond to the simple and classic designs and like being able to share these across generations. That sharing and the ability of women and girls of all ages to relate to these together is one of the things that we think is very strong about this line. This whole line will also likely appeal to doll collectors and, of course, Lennon Sisters fans.
