My First Crayola Mess-Free 2-in-1 Doodle Board Review (Crayola)

What It Is

Crayola's My First Crayola line is designed to give toddlers art tools and supplies designed just for them. With the My First Crayola Mess-Free 2-in-1 Doodle Board, toddlers can draw on both sides of the board without ink, paint, or paper. Open the plastic pen and fill the red side with water. Then use it to draw on the white surface to reveal lots of bold colors everywhere the pen touches. Flip the board over to the sealed gel painting side. Kids use their fingers to draw on this surface, and the color yellow is revealed wherever kids have "drawn." The sealed gel painting surface is designed to give kids the feel of fingerpainting but without the mess of paints. (Kids can also use the orange end of the water pen to draw on this surface.) The pen is triangular so it's easy for kids of the target age to grasp. Crayola calls this Stage 2: Guided Grip because the shape of the pen is also meant to help children develop their writing grip.

Is It Fun?

The My First Crayola Mess-Free 2-in-1 Doodle Board offers toddlers lots of creative. Kids will like the simple creativity and the high repeat play, as well as the fun and engaging tactile experiences. Parents will like, as always, that it's mess-free, self-contained, and easy to take anywhere.

Who It’s For

The My First Crayola Mess-Free 2-in-1 Doodle Board is for ages 24 months and up.

Crayola has created a system for this line that takes into account kids' different developmental stages when it comes to drawing and pre-writing. This is for kids who have slightly more developed fine motor skills and can grasp the triangular stylus. At the same time, the finger use on the gel board helps kids further develop these skills in a more general way.

What To Be Aware Of

If you use the red water-filled side of the pen on the gel surface, it will leave behind water. Only use the orange side of the pen or your fingers on the gel surface if you don't want to get wet.
