In the Dr. Seuss Charades Game, preschoolers must act out Dr. Seuss characters and other items from Dr. Seuss books. The game, for two to four players, includes 33 cards, each with three items on it that preschoolers must act out. Choices range from characters, such as Sam I Am, Horton, and the Lorax, to basic items and actions you might have seen in Dr. Seuss books, such as an umbrella, a dog, and singing. One player draws a card and picks one of the three items on that card to act out. He can use words, sounds, and actions, as long as he doesn't say the word itself. The challenge lies in how a child translates a picture to an action, especially when it comes to acting out the characters. Acting out the Grinch isn't as easy as it might sound. The other players have to guess what the action is and can use the six pictures on the other side of the card as clues. Both the player who correctly guesses first and the player who acted out the word roll the dice and move their Dr. Seuss character pawns on the board. The first player to cross the finish line wins. There are, however, some Chutes & Ladders-like twists along the way that can send players forward and backward.
This is an easier, kid-friendly version of Charades, though younger kids may still need assistance from mom and dad. Of course, that collaboration could make it fun for the family to play together.
The Dr. Seuss Charades Game is for ages 3 and up.
The game doesn't require reading, though it could help build both reading and language skills.
