Cartoon Network Fluxx from Looney Labs is a themed version of the 2-6 player card game in which the rules are constantly changing. This version features characters from top Cartoon network shows, including Adventure Time, The Regular Show, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, Samarai Jake, The Amazing World of Gumball, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed Edd and Eddy, and more.
Each player starts the game with a hand of three cards. The basic rules are laid at the center of the table along with the draw pile. It doesn't matter who goes first but the game starts by following the basic rules: draw one card and play one card per turn. The various types of cards you can play throughout the game have received a cartoon makeover, including Rules, Goals, Keepers, and Action cards.
Goal cards, which will determine what the goal of the game will be, now feature silly combinations of Keeper cards, both of which now feature popular Cartoon Network shows. For example, whichever player has the "Swordsmen" Keeper cards (Adventure Time's Finn and Samurai Jake) on the table wins. It's a good idea not to play these cards too early until you have a few Keepers on the table to help you meet these goals. Players can also change the goal of the game at any time by replacing it with a new goal from their hand.
You can play a Keeper card at any time, and if you don't know what to play they are usually a good place to start. Most goals require you to have a pair of Keepers in play in order to win the game.
To change the basic rules of the game, players can play Rule cards, such as "Draw 2," which increases the number of cards you must draw per turn, or the Cartoon Network-themed Rules, such as Cartoon Talk, for which if you speak in a cartoon voice during your turn you get to draw an extra card.
You can also play Action cards, which likewise have also received a cartoon makeover, with added cards such as Heroes Rush In, for which if any of the keepers featured on the card are in play, you automatically get to steal them.
Eventually, one player will meet the game's current goal to win the game.
For Fluxx fans and Cartoon Network fans, this puts a fun new twist on the game. We like how the new cards shake up the gameplay even more with silly scenarios and goals thrown in, such as Cartoon Talk or the Goal Ladies' Men (Adventure Time's Ice King and Johnny Bravo). And despite the rule changes throughout the game, Fluxx is still easy to pick up and play.
Cartoon Network Fluxx is for 2-6 players, ages 8 and up. It will likely appeal to Cartoon Network fans who like a little added strategy to their games.
Additional versions of the game are sold separately.
