Mario Kart 8 Review (Nintendo)

What It Is

Mario Kart 8 from Nintendo is the eighth edition of one of the most popular Kart-Racing franchises of all time. Mario Kart 8 has all the crazy, kart-racing elements that the series is known for, including wacky vehicles, insane race courses, and plenty of power-ups. MK 8 also has an anti-gravity feature that allows the vehicles to drive on gravity-defying courses.

There are four basic race modes including Grand Prix, which is a four-race cup championship. Other modes include Time Trials where you try to set new records vs. Race Mode, which allows players to customize the race parameters. The final mode is Battle, where you try to pop the balloons that are attached to the other racers' vehicles. All of these races can be played by one to four people, except Time Trials, which is a single-player race.

Is It Fun?

The races are a blast because of all the Nintendo elements in the game. There's a huge group of characters to choose as your racer, including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach. There are also baby versions of those characters plus many more. There are seven vehicles available at start with more to unlock. Vehicles can be customized by changing the tires and tail accessory. In addition to Power Ups, there are also coins on the courses that you want to collect because they unlock additional items and custom options.

Who It’s For

The game is rated E for everyone and is a must-play for Mario Kart fans, ages 6 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

In addition to the game's four console modes, there are also online multiplayer races available. Players can go online and race against family and friends around the country or select races with strangers from around the planet.
