The Twins' Little Sister Review (Farrar Straus Giroux)

What It Is

The Twins' Little Sister is a 32-page book written by Hyewon Yum about twin sisters welcoming a new baby to the family. For the sisters, being twins means having two of almost everything: two beds, two polka-dot dresses, and two dolls, but only one mom. Sharing that mom isn't always easy, but now Mom is having another baby and the twins will have to share her with a little sister, too. Since Mom has only two arms, they can't imagine how that will work. Once the baby arrives, the twins slowly discover the pleasures of being big sisters and learn that there's more than enough love to go around.

Is It Fun?

The Twins' Little Sister is filled with sweet illustrations of the twins, their mom, and their new baby sister. For many families with a toddler, bringing a new baby home can be quite challenging, and this book could be a tool for parents to use to reassure and prepare their child.

Although this book does have a happy ending and some sweet parts about the twins loving their little sister, it also focuses on the challenge of bringing a new baby home and the negatives of being a twin. Some parents of twins might prefer to only read their children books that focus on the positives of being a twin.

Who It’s For

The Twins' Little Sister doesn't have a set recommended age, but we think kids ages 2-6 will enjoy it the most.
