Fred's Beds Review (Farrar Straus Giroux)

What It Is

Fred's Beds is a new picture book about a dog who loves to sleep anywhere. Playful Fred makes his own bed in nearly every room of the house. He turns anything into a bed ... a crinkly shopping bag, pile of old newspapers and even a soggy bath towel. But when Zelda's birthday party gets started, Fred can't seem to find a place to sleep without getting into trouble. Of course, after Fred tries to use Zelda's birthday cake as a pillow, who could blame Zelda for being cross. After opening her presents, Zelda gives Fred one of his own ... a new bed. Will he like to sleep in it or not?

Is It Fun?

The illustrations are bright and colorful, and bring the humor of the story alive. The character of Fred was inspired by the real beagle of a friend of author Barbara Samuels.
