Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things That Go Review (Golden Books)

What It Is

This special edition is in honor of the 40th anniversary of the first printing of this Golden Books classic. Decades later, preschoolers and up will still enjoy exploring the busy pages packed with vehicles, both real and absurd, as they follow the Pig family on their way home from the market. Officer Flossy is still chasing the mischievous Dingo Dog through the town, and Goldbug has a special hiding spot on every page.

Is It Fun?

The magic of this book, the wonderful illustrations and they'll enjoy discovering Richard Scarry's world through engaging iconic characters.

It doesn't hurt that millions of adults have fond memories of perusing the pages of this book, and will be pleased to share it with a new generation. Adults will probably find it amazing that after 40 years, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Scarry's vehicles seems to be frozen in time, and tots may encounter many of them in their own worlds. For example, while pharmacies and bookstores no longer deliver, kids may spot a VW convertible driving down the road, airplanes in the sky and barges on the bay.

This title makes a fantastic gift for any time of the year and is a great alternative to the family minivan's DVD player because it offers many great opportunities for interaction between parents and kids.

Who It’s For

This book is terrific for kids ages 3 and up, and it has a lot to engage them as they are being read to.

What To Be Aware Of

Though it's 40 years old, it's just as fun today as ever! Other books may not have stood the test of time, but the basic themes and now-classic drawings seem very contemporary.
