Turbo Morph Max Steel Review (Mattel)

What It Is

The Turbo Morph Max Steel is a two-in-one action figure that transforms from the hero Max in flight mode into his alien sidekick, Steel. The figure starts as Max, then turn the crank in its chest to transform the figure into Steel. After that, push the button on the crank, and it transforms back into Max. The figure includes a blaster that fires a projectile.

Is It Fun?

While this is a cute concept, the execution turned out to be a little disappointing. The blaster is difficult to get into Max's hand in Max mode, and it must be removed before turning into Steel and attached to his back. The problem with that is that when it's attached to Steel's back, it blocks the handle that kids are supposed to be able to grab to have the toy in flight mode. It's a little bit awkward. The crank is a little awkward, too, for small hands. In the end, it seemed like a lot more work than play, and for kids who are into Max Steel and the related toys, we feel there are better options available.

Who It’s For

Turbo Morph Max Steel is for Max Steel fans ages 4 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

On the sample we tried out, Max's left leg didn't retract when it went into Steel mode, which it's supposed to do.
