Toolbox Jewelry Review (Klutz)

What It Is

Toolbox Jewelry by Kaitlyn Nichols is a hardware jewelry kit that teaches kids how to make industrial jewelry from items usually found in a toolbox along with cord, satin ribbon, beads, and earring wires. Simple instructions transform these toolbox items into super chic and pretty jewelry. Toolbox Jewelry comes with a 60-page book of step-by-step instructions for making 10 projects, including rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces. The kit also includes more than 200 nuts, washers, and fasteners; three colors of cord; earring wires; 75 beads; two colors of satin ribbon; and a snap-shut blister cover for storage.

Is It Fun?

Despite the fact that kids are using metal hardware often found in a toolbox to make jewelry, the finished result is really pretty and definitely something kids (and adults) will want to wear out. The instructions were easy to follow, making this a fun and rewarding activity. This kit will appeal to kids who have an interest in making their own jewelry and accessories.

Who It’s For

Toolbox Jewelry is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

There are a few tools not included with this kit that you might want to have on hand: scissors; a clipboard, safety pin, or tape to hold down projects while you work; and a magnet to help pick up the metal hardware.

When you first open the container of metal hardware, there is a sticky tape-like cover that you must remove. The hardware gets stuck to this tape, so be prepared to spend a few minutes peeling it all off the tape.
