Melt n Mold Factory Review (Crayola)

Melt n Mold Factory
What It Is

The Melt 'n Mold Factory is an update of the Crayola Crayon Maker, that was a big hit a few years ago, except that now there are different molds and in addition to making crayons, kids can also make very cool crayon rings. The set comes with 24 unwrapped crayons, but of course, you can use any crayon pieces you might have lying around. (Most people have plenty of those.) Pick a mold and insert it into the unit. Put your crayon pieces in the melting tray, plug in the unit, and turn it on. Wind the larger knob for the heater and the timer. The light comes on as the unit is heating, and it goes off when the wax is melted. Then turn the second knob to pour the wax into the mold. The unit stays locked until the molds and the crayons are cool enough to touch.

Is It Fun?

This is a terrific way to reuse old crayons, and there's really no waste because the crayon residue in the heating plate or molds or anything broken off can be re-melted. It's also a great way for kids to get creative. Kids will really like that they can make traditional crayons with this item as well as other fun shapes.

Who It’s For

The Melt 'n Mold Factory is for ages 8 and up, but we think younger kids will be able to do this with adult participation.

What To Be Aware Of

One tip if you're using this: You may want to break the crayons up into smaller pieces. Breaking the crayons into larger pieces ended up with us taking three cycles to fully melt the wax. You also want to be sure that the melting tray is placed correctly before you start or it won't pour the wax correctly.
